Looks like parts of an old table, seems v stable, wanting to use for neck laminations. Doesn't feel or look like the mahogany I have.

Sapelle possibly, but more likely Khaya.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

I haven't measured density but it feels lighter than true mahogany but I'm starting to feel it is Honduran, just very light.

Honduran doesn't mean light, in my experience.
What that photo looks like to me is lauan, which is usually light.
Tends to be on the weak side, crushes easily.
Often sold as Philippine Mahogany, but is NOT a swietenia genus.

Agree with Philippian Mahogany. I built a credenza out of it once and swore I would never use it again.

In post WWII America mahogany reproductions of colonial furniture were all the rage. These pieces have the same cordovan red stain and use >75% veneered components.
Your pic appears to be some sort of Philippine mahogany as has been mentioned. There are multiple species marketed as Philippine mahogany and my guess based on your pic is meranti.

Look at the end grain, then compare your end grain to the end grain of the species suggested on this thread.

I've got a good few bits of red meranti/luan/or so called Philippine mahogany,
and unless that photo is waaay further away than it seems, i.e picture is of a whole tabletop sized piece,
then the long grain pores is too fine for it to be so IMO.
It's not the hardest either, and can be dented with ones thumbnail, which doesn't look the case with that timber so much.
I find something like a pencil or whatever, would give an idea of scale upping the chances on getting an ID.

It looks a nice timber to me with the striping, yet not seemingly banding which this pic might highlight.
